Founded in 2001 by Dr. Paul S. Barth and Randy Bean, NewVantage is a partnership of executives with extensive industry backgrounds in business and technology planning and execution.

Executive Management

Paul Barth, PhD, Managing Partner/Founder

Paul Barth co-founded NewVantage Partners in 2001. Paul is a recognized thought-leader and practitioner in leveraging information as a strategic asset and in emerging approaches and best practices in data management. Dr. Barth was founder and CTO of Tessera Enterprise Systems, a nationally-known systems integration firm formed in 1995. He became CTO of iXL Enterprises, a leading international Internet integration firm, following the merger of Tessera/iXL in December 1999. He holds a PhD in computer science from MIT, and a MS from Yale University. Paul was formerly vice president of technology at Epsilon Data Management (an American Express company), and held senior technology positions at Thinking Machines and Schlumberger. pbarth@newvantage.com

Randy Bean, Managing Partner/Founder

Randy Bean co-founded NewVantage Partners in 2001. Randy is a recognized thought-leader and practitioner in customer information management. He was senior vice president and general manager of the business banking and b-to-b database marketing practices of Harte-Hanks Data Technologies, and member of the leadership team which grew the firm from $9M to $150M during a 10-year tenure. He was a founder and vice president of market development for Wheelhouse Corporation, and held IT and strategic planning positions during 8 years with Bank of Boston (now Bank of America). He holds a BA from Washington University in St. Louis, attended executive programs at Amos Tuck (Dartmouth) and Darden (University of Virginia), and has been a lecturer at Tuck. rbean@newvantage.com

Blaise Heltai, PhD, General Partner

Blaise Heltai joined NewVantage Partners as a partner in 2005. Blaise is a recognized thought-leader and practitioner in e-Business and customer experience. He was an early pioneer in online banking. Dr. Heltai was executive vice president for eBusiness for FleetBoston Financial/Bank of America, where he led the e-Catalyst online banking transformation during a 10-year tenure. He previously held executive positions at Bell Labs and was CEO of fileTRUST. He also held a professorship at Indiana University. Blaise is a board member and recent president of the Massachusetts Innovation and Technology Exchange (MITX), and is a member of the e-Government committee of the National Academy of Science. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from the State University of New York.

Ken Krigelman, PhD, Senior Associate/Director, New York Office

Ken Krigelman brings extensive expertise and experience in the planning and deployment of high-performance systems with effective alignment of business and technology. He was formerly Chief Architect, Enterprise Information Management for CitiGroup Global Wealth Management. Ken previously was Senior Principal and Chief Solutions Architect, Financial Services for Knightsbridge Solutions. He also held senior technology positions with Naviant and National Grange Mutual Insurance. Ken holds a PhD, MA, and BA in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Paul Bergamo, Senior Associate

Paul Bergamo brings extensive expertise in data governance and technology management. He was CTO for LIberty Mutual Group from 2001-2005. He previously was CTO for Aetna Insurance, where he also held the position of chief architect for Aetna enterprise systems during a 10-year tenure. He previously worked as a consultant for Wang Labs. Paul holds a BS in Information Systems from Penn State and is a charter member of several CIO leadership councils.

Peter Kim, Senior Associate

Peter Kim brings an extensive background in CRM and analytics. He previously led marketing and analytics solutions practices at Spotfire, Harte-Hanks, Wheelhouse, and iMarket. His clients have included Fidelity Investments, Washington Mutual, Putnam Investments, Freddie Mac, and Microsoft. Peter holds a BS from Boston University and an MBA from Babson College.

Executive Advisory Board

Lynda Applegate

Lynda Applegate is the Henry R. Byers Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, teaching courses in entrepreneurial management, and technology and innovation. Lynda is co-head of the HBS Entrepreneurial Management group, and an internationally recognized expert and author on business and technology innovation. Her most recent articles include “Exploiting Disruption to Jumpstart Innovation”. Lynda has served on numerous commissions and blue-ribbon panels.

Dave Ellard

Dave Ellard was Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for EMC Corporation and previously held the position of CIO for Boston Scientific Corporation. In his capacity as CIO, Dave was responsible for the enterprise integration and scaling of all corporate IT processes. Dave was most recently a senior vice president with Glasshouse Technologies.

John Fiore

John Fiore is Executive Vice President/CIO and head of investor services technology for Mellon Bank of New York. He previously served as Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Executive Vice President for State Street Corporation during a ten-year tenure, and was a Partner and Director with Coopers & Lybrand. John was recognized by CIO Magazine in the 1999, 2000, and 2002 "CIO 100".

John Keane

John Keane is founder of King Hill Capital, a private equity firm focused on energy independence. He previously was a Board member and member of the leadership team with Keane, Inc., which grew from $60MM to $1.1B during his tenure, and Founder/CEO of ArcStream Solutions. John holds a BA from Harvard College and MBA from Harvard Business School.

Harvey Koeppel

Harvey Koeppel is Executive Director of the Center for CIO Leadership, a collaboration of IBM and leading academic organizations. He previously served as Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Global Consumer Group for CitiGroup from May 2004 through June 2007, and as a consultant led the integration of acquisitions including Travelers Insurance for CitiGroup, and projects for JP Morgan Chase.

Steve Sheinheit

Steve Sheinheit was Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for MetLife. He previously held the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Prior to joining MetLife, Steve held the position of Executive Vice President and Corporate CIO for Chase Manhattan Bank. He is a graduate of the Harvard Advanced Management Program and holds an MBA from Baruch College and BA from City College of NY.

Joseph Smialowski

Joe Smialowski has held key technology leadership roles including Executive Vice President of technology and operations for Freddie Mac, Executive Vice President/CIO of Fleet Boston Financial, where he played a leadership role in the corporate integration following acquisition by Bank of America, and Senior Vice President/CIO of Sears Roebuck. He was formerly a partner with Price Waterhouse. Joe holds a BA from Merrimack College and an MS in Computer Sciences from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Mel Taub

Mel Taub was Corporate Technology Officer (CTO) for CitiGroup, where he chaired the CitiGroup Information Technology Leadership Council, until his retirement on December 31, 2003. He was previously Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Salomon Smith Barney, and held senior executive positions with Merrill Lynch, EF Hutton, and Shearson Lehman during his career on Wall Street.

Paul Zazzera

Paul Zazzera was Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Time Inc, and Chair of Time-Warner’s CIO Council (AOL, HBO, New Line Cinema, Time Warner Cable, Turner/CNN, Warner Brothers). He previously was a General Partner with Friday Holdings and an executive at the Wall Street Journal. Steve is a member of Kleiner Perkins CIO Exchange. He holds BS and MS degrees from City College of NY.
